Is God Real?

Yes, God is real. Since I became a believer at the age of thirteen I've never really doubted His existence. Two main things have always helped me to know that He is real.

The first is that Jesus came into my heart. No experience has ever compared to that thrilling moment when I asked Jesus to come into my heart. He did so, and everything changed! His joy flooded my entire being. To me, this is proof that God exists.

"You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart."

A second proof of God's reality is found in worship. C.S. Lewis wrote, "It is in the process of being worshiped that God communicates His presence to men." I know this from experience. Nothing is so wonderful as to worship and adore God in the light of His presence, where I've always found fullness of joy and abiding pleasure. I love to soak in His presence, for, as I draw near to Him, He draws near to me.

Other things assure me of God's reality as well: the Bible, prayer, the beautiful world we live in, Christian fellowship, the daily miracles of life, the wonderful peace and rest He gives to me, answered prayers, His mighty love, and so many other things. Through the years, I've seen God at work in my life and the lives of others.

J.I. Packer wrote, "Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life's problems fall into place of their own accord." This I believe with all my heart.

The Westminster Shorter Catechism of 1674 concurs with this when it asks: "What is the chief end of man?" The answer is a resounding one: "Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever."

Nothing is too hard for our God. He is our faithful Father, and He loves us with an everlasting love. If you do not know Him, please ask Him to come into your heart as I did so many years ago.

"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" (1 John 3:1).
