Happiness Is a Warm Puppy

Happiness Is a Warm Puppy is a delightful book written by Peanuts' creator Charles M. Schulz. I am quite certain that I know what the title means now that Peggy and I have two puppies! There really is nothing quite like having a puppy on your lap. It does bring happiness and peace to the soul.

Our two puppies are Gizmo, a six-month-old Shih Tzu, and Cubby, a cross between a Yorkshire terrier and a dachshund. That makes this two-month-old fellow a Dorky! They are both cute and friendly puppies that keep us busy but also add great joy to our lives. We got them soon after our former pet, Itsy, was killed.

Charles Schulz was a Christian. He wrote another book entitled The Gospel According to Peanuts in which he shares words of wisdom that are both humorous and thought-provoking. For example, he wrote, "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It is already tomorrow in Australia." This truth helps us to understand that it really is impossible and futile to predict an exact day when the world will end.

Here's another quote I like: "Life is like a ten-speed bicycle. Most of us have gears we never use." This seems to confirm that most of us only use a small percentage of our brain power.

Take a look at the following one-liners from Mr. Schulz; I hope you enjoy them as much as I did:

"A whole stack of memories never equal one little hope."

"All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt."

"Decorate your home. It gives the illusion that your life is more interesting than it really is."

"I love mankind; it's people I can't stand."

"I think I've discovered the secret of life--you just hang around until you get used to it."

"Jogging is very beneficial. It's good for your legs and your feet. It's also very good for the ground. It makes it feel needed."

Aren't those thoughts terrific? Though we miss Charles Schulz, we remain very thankful for the joy he brought to us.

Yes, happiness is a warm puppy!
