Life Beyond the Yellow Ragged Couch

A new title that we have just released is Unsettled--Life Beyond the Yellow Ragged Couch by Piet Kok Van Waarde. This is a very timely book because we are living in such unsettled times--times of international economic recession (Greece's economy, for example, is on the verge of collapse), high unemployment rates, tensions between nations (particularly in the Middle East), mortgage foreclosures, rising rates of suicide and murder, bankruptcies, natural disasters of unprecedented proportions, terrorism, fear, uncertainty, and quite a number of other symptoms of our unsettledness as a people.

Piet writes, "There are few things in life that are more troubling than the feeling of unsettledness. I think we have all felt it at some point. Probably more often that we care to admit. It is that feeling of being off balance, anxious, jumpy, and uneven. It isn't enough to take you out, but it is enough to keep you up. We know something is wrong, but we are not always sure what it is or what to do about it. It is...well...unsettling."

This important book shows the reader that life is unsettling, but it does not need to remain unsettling. Piet concludes his book with these words:

In the whispering of the Spirit to make the left turn at the airport...

in the graciousness of the flight attendant on our plane...

In the tender care of the priest and his wife for my mom...

In the tears of family members unashamed of their feelings...

In the extra-mile love of my creative arts pastor...

In the providence of a body found in the ocean...

In the call from the Mediterranean...

In the actions of a donut angel...

In the story of a life well-lived...

In the roses on the water...

Life is unsettling, but it need not remain so. "Our soul is not at rest until it finds its rest in thee...."

When that rest comes, all feelings of unsettledness vanish.

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).
