What Will 2012 Bring?

Happy New Year!

The year 2012 promises to be an interesting one in light of the fact that it is the year of the Olympic Games in London, U.S. political party conventions, and the U.S. Presidential Election.

Last year I researched the upcoming year and wrote a book entitled, 2012, Is This the End? As I gathered information, I discovered some pretty interesting prophecies concerning this significant year.

One modern-day prophet, John Paul Jackson, for example, warns, "Beware the woes of 2012."

The Mayan Long-count Calendar concludes on December 21, 2012, and this has led some to speculate that these ancient people were predicting that the end of the world would occur on that date. Other individuals, both ancient and modern, point to the coming year as being a particularly significant time for a variety of reasons.

There is the Last Pope Prophecy that was given by Saint Malachy during the twelfth century. He prophesied about the Popes of the Roman Catholic Church through symbols and points to the present pope (or his successor) as being the last. In yesterday's paper I read that Pope Benedict XVI is getting increasingly frail and feeble. Could he be the last pope?

Science suggests that major events could occur during 2012. These include increased solar activity such as sun storms, which will be very disruptive to communication systems on Earth.

A rare alignment of the winter-solstice sun with the Galactic Center is predicted by some. This could result in a polar reversal or polar shift occurring around December 21, 2012.

Numerous other prophecies suggest that 2012 could be the end, or a whole new beginning for the human race. I don't believe, however, it's possible to know such things for sure. I am content to leave it all in God's hands, for He knows what's best for us.

No matter what might happen, though, I find myself agreeing with Corrie ten Boom, who wrote, "Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God."
